In today’s article, Larry discusses a bulletin sent out to salesmen in 1964 to promote some positive press and buildouts for discontinued models. Enjoy!
Often our lessons revolve around service department topics, but the sales department issued quite a number of updates, promotions, and revisions as well. Today we look at 2 such letters from 1964.
On April 15th, dealers were advised that Car & Driver magazine readers just voted the Corvair as “Best Compact sedan”. Dealers would be mailed out 25 reprints of that article in a ready to send to prospective buyer format – just add a stamp and address. No doubt prior Corvair purchasers would be on the dealer ‘prospect’ list.
Late in each model year, all dealers would be sent “build out’ information indicating what models /options may no longer be availible to order. This mid June letter addresses truck models including the 3 Corvair 95 models. Given the ordering deadline, a dealer would have had barely a week to place his final order for a new Rampside or Corvan! Knowing that those 2 would not return for the 1965 model year, I wonder if any dealer decided to ‘stock up’ …..
