Today, let’s switch gears and talk about CORSA. I hope that everyone reading this is a CORSA member. If you aren’t, its time to right that wrong and sign up!
The nomination period for CORSA division directors opened 01 July and goes through 15 August. Once all nominations are received, candidates will run for a director position that will last for three years beginning on 01 Jan 2027.
So, why should you become a director? Well, I can’t answer that, but I can tell you why I decided to volunteer in 2020.
During this period, I personally felt that CORSA was getting kind of stale. I also felt like we had almost no visibility west of the Rockies. I still understand that Corsa is an East Coast heavy group, and that’s fine, but there are a lot of us out here too!
Before running, I consulted with my good friend (and SFBA member) Greg Vargas who was on the board at the time. I also consulted with Dave Newell. Both encouraged me to run, so I did!
Gang, when I got elected and was seated on the board, I will say, to put it mildly, we were stuck in the mud. There was much hand wringing about membership, but no real plan on what to do.
Greg and I began to talk offline about what we could do to wake the org up. We had ideas and action plans, but not a ton of support. Once Jeanette Alberte joined the board, we had a large enough group to really begin pushing a forward looking agenda.
Over my 6+ years as director, CORSA collectively accomplished the following projects which I was a part of:
- Monthly meetings switched to zoom from a dial in service
- Creation and launching of a proactive membership committee
- Upgrading payment platforms for the Corsa website
- Creating a digital membership offering a discounted plan for CORSA members
- A new merchandise vendor
- Creation of the CORSA instagram account
- CORSA taking control of and upgrading the Corvair Center Forum
- Revision of the CORSA bylaws, policy and procedure and code of conduct
- Successful Corvair Preservation Foundation uncoupling from the board of directors/officers.
- Getting TWO national conventions in California (SLO in 2025 and Sacramento in 2028)
All of the above were a team effort, with team members switching over the years presenting a new vision and energy to complete very difficult tasks.
As my time on the board draws to a close at the end of this year (we also re-instated term limits during my time in), I am humbly asking you to carry the torch. CORSA is, by no means, a finished product. Enthusiasm, fresh blood and a new set of ideas are what CORSA needs to build on its solid foundation set up over half a century ago.

The nomination period for new BoD members runs 1 July 2026 through 15
August 2026. Nominees need to provide an autobiographical article and a
photograph for publication in the October issue of the CORSA Communique.
In addition, nominees shall be required to sign and submit a copy of the Board
of Directors Code of Conduct as a condition of candidacy.
Nominations for the CORSA BoD may be submitted to the CORSA Vice President, Josh Deitcher.
Some additional points:
~ Upon receipt of a nomination, the Vice President will provide a copy of
the BoD Code of Conduct to the nominee via pdf by email or a hard copy
through the US Postal Service. Nominees can mail back signed codes of
conduct or scan and email directly to the VP.
~ There is one open director position in each division this year, (East
Central & West).
~ Any questions regarding the election process may be directed to Josh
