I don’t know about your family, but our family led a documented life, at least since I was born. My parents kept all the records from birth announcements through grade school report cards, Boy Scouts to college to my military service. All of that came to me at some point.
I bring that up because I have almost all the records of the life of a 1961 Corvair Monza Coupe. It was delivered many years after me. I never met the original owner, but that owner must have felt like my parents did with their “newborn”. They kept all the original records, including the window sticker (see photo), receipts to the dealer for the original deposit, the final payment, delivery paperwork, etc.
The car was built in Oakland, CA and lived in Menlo Park, CA it’s entire driving life. I did know the second owner, a local club member, since deceased, and the third owner, still very much alive.
All during the years of ownership many, many receipts and notes were kept by the three owners and “filed”. All of it came to me with the car. I can’t really call myself the fourth owner, title never transferred.
Unfortunately, the car (the empty body shell, really) is departing this life to become other metal things in industry. (Honestly, I tried) Useful parts will make their way onto/into other Corvairs. Maybe some of the Monza will come back in a part of a Chevy Equinox. ~ Seth Emerson
