Checking your spark plugs can tell you a lot about your engine. Is your car running “too rich” or “too lean”? Are you having “hard starts”? Does your car start ok but perform poorly when driving? Do you have regular “pinging” or “pre-detonation”? Not all of these issues can be fixed with a cleaning or changing of plugs, but your plugs can tell you a story of the condition of your engine.
For those of you Corvair owners who are just starting on your journey, we have provided the below chart courtesy of NGK that breaks everything down nicely.
Good news is, if you want to change your plugs, just about every FLAPS carries at least one brand of plug compatible for your Corvair.
Better news is if you want to change your plugs, cap, rotor and wires (thanks Seth!), California Corvairs sells an entire ignition tune-up kit!
Make sure to have your copy of Corvair Basics at the ready to answer any questions that may arise.
