Happy Thanksgiving from SFBA CORSA

We would like wish you all a Vairy Happy Thanksgiving. We are thankful for all of your support and friendship over the years. We are also thankful to Ed Cole and Bill Mitchell for making the idea of the Corvair a reality that we are able to enjoy to this day. We are thankful for the Corvair Society of America. We are thankful for Cal & Joan Clark and everyone at Clark’s Corvair Parts. We are thankful for all of our other Corvair vendors and parts makers. We are thankful for our local mechanics and paint & body experts who keep our Corvairs looking and running like new. We are thankful to all of the event planners who put on shows, cruise-ins, rally’s, swap meets and cars & coffee for us to attend. Last but not least, we are thankful to Dave Newell and Tony Richards who, in 1972, created SFBA CORSA!

We love sharing tech tips that we come across and that are shared by members and Corvair enthusiasts, but thought today we’d give you some tips to make your Thanksgiving gathering a success!

Prioritize safety: Keep children at least three feet away from the stove and hot liquids. Store matches, lighters, and knives out of their reach.

Free up fridge space: Clean out the refrigerator to make room for leftovers and dishes that need to be kept cold.

Use your oven efficiently: Bake dishes in rectangular or square pans to fit more in the oven at once. Keep cooked sides like mashed potatoes warm in a crockpot (for no more than an hour).

Stay safe while cooking: Stay in the kitchen when using the stovetop and check on the turkey frequently. Make sure your smoke alarms are working and keep flammable items away from heat sources. Be very careful deep-frying turkeys and only do this outdoors.

Time it out: Start the morning preparing cold dishes and hors d’oeuvres to have ready when guests arrive. This will free up time to prepare the main dishes.

Take care of yourself: Family and friends are there to help. Don’t be too proud to ask! Don’t skip meals or forget to hydrate, especially when spending a lot of time in a hot kitchen.

What are you thankful for this year? Let us know in the comments.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m thankful for this Corvair community! I’ve only been a member for a handful of weeks but I’ve received helpful tips, books, a fan belt bearing grease tool which worked great (thx Josh!), and hands on help with my clutch (thx Lane). This weekend Lane Davidson has offered to look over my shoulder while I do my first helicoil fix on a stripped valve cover thread.
