From the scuttlebutt on text message chains and social media posts, this year’s GWFBT&SM (Great Western Fan Belt Toss & Swap Meet) has been one for the ages.

Many SFBA members are attending the event this year in Palm Springs at its new location, the Double Tree Palm Springs Golf Resort.

We are getting varied numbers as Corvairs come and go, but attendees all agree that between 90 and 110 Corvairs showed up for the event. It looks like even some owners decided to pitch in on a car carrier!

The Dyno was back again this year so owners could get a true horsepower readout on their Corvairs. Last year, there was a friendly competition to see which Corvair put out the most HP with Val Doppenberg’s 61 sedan putting out over 200hp!

This year’s guest speaker was Matt from Matt’s Offroad Recovery in Colorado with his Lakewood Recovery Vehicle. If you aren’t aware of Matt’s Offroad Recovery, his YouTube channel is worth a visit!
The swap meet didn’t disappoint this year either with many rare and NOS parts available for the taking!

Our friend from the Central Coast, Paolo Galli was on hand with his custom billet Corvair heads, but this time with them on an engine. We cannot wait to see these in production and will bother Paolo for a future article with details on these new parts.

All in all, it looks like the gang down in So-Cal really outdid themselves this year. Here are some more photos of cars shared by SFBA members. Mark your calendars for next year’s “toss”. Always the 3rd weekend of October.
