Just for fun – What do you listen to while working on or road tripping in your Corvair?

While at the work party in Don’s shop last weekend, Don had country music on in the background which really felt right working in his neck of the woods while the wild peacocks strutted along to Chris Stapleton on the gravel road.

If you spend any time in Zaki’s shop, Corvair Unlimited, in San Francisco, you’ll get a jazz education unlike any other. Not only from the performers on the radio, but from Zaki’s vast knowledge of jazz history while the neighborhood cats soak in the sun and sounds of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and Art Tatum.

So, we want to hear from you 🫵

What are you listening to while wrenching on your Corvair, rebuilding those carbs or trying to track down that elusive socket?

For those who don’t have a garage or care to spend any time in one, what are some of your favorite road trip songs in your Corvair?

Don’t be shy. We know you aren’t working in the garage or road tripping in silence.

  1. Altho I got the origin factory wrong, I thought of what would have been on the radio if I were driving Frankie the ’65 years ago, as if it was Fall of ’64 thru 1965:

    1. We had a hunch you would have a Corvair specific playlist. For readers who don’t know, Laurence has a deep knowledge and impressive collection of rare soul vinyl. Their blog is worth a follow.

I like to listen to Sam Cooke on Pandora when I’m working on the Corvair. The sounds of classic R&B/soul takes me to a simpler time before I was born. Also don’t have to worry about any random cuss words that might upset wife, kids, and neighbors

    1. Sam Cooke is definitely period correct for the Corvair. Also big fans of 60’s R&B and Soul music. 📻

My tastes seem to change with the weather, but for working in the garage, its usually a pretty heavy dose of blues, early rock and soul. Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters, Link Wray, Ike Turner, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley…

Baseball dominates the airwaves in the summer.

When it comes to road trips, I usually leave the playlists up to Jess and Hank, but if its a solo trip, it usually leans more dark wave.

    1. The blues seem fitting for garage days. Nothing like baseball on the radio!

  4. usually have pandora on shuffle, might play Frank Sinatra then Metallica, Billie strings, to John Denver to Afroman to Waylon Jennings lol I listen to every thing. Good music good music, I don’t go anywhere without my blue tooth speakers, Rocking 24/7 🤘

    1. Variety is the spice of life! Love what you’re doing on the East Coast Mark! Keep up the great work! 🙌
