Tech Tips – LED Taillight Conversion

We all know the anxiety of driving on today’s highways and byways in our Corvairs. More importantly, the anxiety around stopping and hoping that the person behind you isn’t distracted by their phone, infotainment screen or that milkshake they just dumped all over their lap and sees your bright, but not LED bright stop lights.

LED’s on the “Flooded Corvair”

We have seen some different mods over the years to light our rear ends up. Some folks have mounted a center brake light over their package tray.

One SFBA member even put brake lights into the plastic vents on the rear deck lid of his 64 Monza.

LED’s have really made strides in the last few years and many classic cars are now converting over. You can buy a plug and play option from an outlet like superbrightleds.com or roll the dice on eBay or Amazon.

We are big fans of Sean and his “Flooded Corvair” and wanted to share his video with you on how to do this conversion.

In his demonstration, Sean shows us how he created adapters to install LEDs into his existing tail lamp assemblies.

Right now, Sean has adapter sets available for late models (1965-69) with sets for earlies (1960-64) coming soon.

The cost for an adapter set for your late model is $35 including shipping for 4 adapters and flasher plug. The LED is not included but Sean shows where to purchase this in his video.

You can contact Sean directly at autoanatomy@icloud.com for more information or to purchase a set.

Sean is doing some incredible things with his Corvair and is well worth a follow on YouTube. If you end up buying one of his kits, let us know and we will share an update!
